Understanding Green Opportunites

Positioning yourself for a green career takes some work. The work can be broken up into three types of activities: explore, develop and action. The first activity is to explore green careers. You need to identify what types of green jobs are available. Then you need to carefully consider if this type of work is what you really want. Once you have picked a career goal, you then need to identify the qualifications needed for that career. Locate educational opportunities to gain skills and knowledge to perform that job. Finally you are ready for action. As with all careers, you will need to do a "job hunt" to locate potential employers and find actual openings to apply and interview for. Is this something you can see yourself doing? Does it sound interesting to you? Does the type of work match the subjects that you performed well in at school? Do you have related experience to this type of work. Then look at the wages and growth to see if this area has potential.

Develop

Get the qualifications that you need for the career you have choosen

Acquire what you need to do that job. There are education credentials or certifications and skills you will need for your chosen career. Once you have identified a career choice contact schools or certification authorities identified in the links below about costs, requirements and the availability of financial aid. The SESP Program provides training opportunities for individuals interested in pursuing careers in the areas of solar energy, wind energy, biofuels, or green construction.
